AETIOLOGY
Allergic Reactions (Urticaria)
INCIDENCE
Common
CLINICAL CULTURE
Itching, urticaria, erythemia, chills & fever, Laryngeal oedema, bhronchospasm (history of allergy or asthma, hay fever, atopy)
MANAGEMENT
1. Do not stop transfusion.
2. Dipheneramine (or other anti-histamine) i/m or i/v.
3. Subcutaneous Epinephrine 0.3 to 0.6 mg if necessary.
4. Hydrocortisone i/v if required.
5. Close observation.
PREVENTION
Administer antihistamine drugs (orally) prior to transfusion.
Use plasma deficient blood components.
