Blood Bank is a Government approved, licensed blood bank, duly registered
with Maharashtra State Blood Transfusion Council, Mumbai.
We make blood components like RBC Concentrates ("Packed Cells"), Platelet Concentrates, Fresh-Frozen Plasma, etc. If your doctor has not specified the component required by your patient, we may have to get a clarification (at least on phone).
We have "in house" facility to carry out tests for AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, VDRL, and Malarial Parasites. This gives us an edge over many other blood banks where some of these tests have to be sent to Government-Sponsored "surveilence centres".
Our modern, state-of-the-art equipment includes a German "Refrigerated Centrifuge Machine". This automatic machine can be pre-programmed to run at specified speed, at specified temperature for a specified period for separating different blood components from the donated unit of blood. The machine can store upto 96 such programmes in its memory. The quality of blood components prepared at Pooja Blood Bank is, thus, consistent and does not depend upon re-adjustment of the machine every time it is operated.
The quality control of our products begins with the selection of blood donors. We are proud to be one of the few blood banks where screening of probable blood donors is done with a view to eliminate persons who may be in the "window period" of many transmissible diseases.
The medical staff of Pooja Blood Bank has a combined experience of more than fifty years. The technical staff is hand-picked and thoroughly trained and skilled in their work. They have also undergone specialized training at Pooja Blood Bank.
Dealing with emergencies is our daily routine. We can understand your anxiety when your doctor tells you to get blood (or its component) for your sick relative/friend. We perform all tests with meticulous perfection. Short-cut methods carry an inherrent risk and should be avoided as far as possible. Time spent in testing is for the well-being of the patient.
We firmly believe that merely issuing of blood/component is not the end of our responsibility. The safe infusion of these products and their clinical benefit for the patient is our ultimate aim. Each unit issued by us carries a letter for the doctor to ensure safe handling and reaction-free transfusion. Make sure you carry this letter. Please also ask our staff for instructions while you carry any products of Pooja Blood Bank.
People are tempted to compare the service charges of Pooja
Blood Bank with those of other blood banks. We
wish to draw your attention to the following in this regard: (1) We do
not get HIV test done free by Government "surveilence centres".(2) Hepatitis
C is another fatal disease which is transmitted by blood. It has no known
cure. We carry out test for hepatitis C virus which is not mandatory
by law (and hence not carried out by many negligent blood banks). (3)
We do not compromise on quality of the test kits and hence use the best
ones available. (4) We have special, low charges for patients admitted
in municipal/Government/charitable hospitals. (5) We give blood FREE OF
COST for thalassaemia patients.
