BLOOD GROUPING & CROSS MATCHING TECHNIQUE

Specimens Required

A specimen of the Recipient's blood (patient's blood ) or the Donor's blood sample sent by the doctor/hospital is required in two containers :
Unclotted blood in EDTA or oxalated bulb, about 2 ml.
Clotted blood in plain tubes/bulbs, about 5 ml.
Note : The samples should not be haemolysed.

The quantities mentioned above need not be strictly adhered to.

Check the labels before accepting the samples.

Beware of common names like "Usha Shah" and "Paresh Mehta".

In case two specimens bearing similar names are received mark them with some identifying mark or adding the referring doctor's name to the label (make similar additions in our records also). We are expected to keep all blood samples at least for one week. Similar names may cause confusion there.
